Leisure LivingGolf, hunting, fishing, camping, hitting the exercise trail, or just watching a movie are only a few of the activities that fill a retiree's day. Searcy has a year round calendar of recreational and cultural activities taking place in the surrounding area. There are two golf courses in Searcy, one is semi-public the other is private. Nearby, Henry Gray/ Hurricane Lake refuge has over 17,000 acres available for fishing, hunting and is second to none in mallard hunting. The new Bald Knob Wildlife Refuge has over 14,800 acres available for wintering waterfowl and about half of this acreage is available for hunting. Now for the fisherman's dream, you can come fall in love with the Little Red River. For about 29 miles downstream from the Greers Ferry Dam, the Little Red River is a World Class fishery for German brown and Rainbow trout. The current International Game and Fish Association and National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame all-tackle world-record German Brown trout was caught here in 1992 (40 lbs., 4 oz.). Water Sports enthusiasts will love big Greers Ferry Lake, located within a 40 minute drive. At 40,000 surface acres, there's plenty of room for all. Newcomers to Searcy will be pleased to know the Arkansas Holiday of Lights Festival is an annual event that runs from Thanksgiving through New Year's Day. Holiday of Lights activities include a lighted Christmas parade, live entertainment on the courts square, events at the Carmichael Community Center, and arts and crafts fairs. The Arkansas Holiday of Lights festival was named the state's best new festival in 1991. The White County Fair is held each year the week after Labor Day and has been dubbed one of the top ten County Fairs in the nation. "Summer in the City" is held each year, and always features a nationally recognized talent. Harding University sponsors a broad display of local talent at Spring Sing over the Easter weekend each year and during the summer with the Summer Dinner Theater. Not to mention, Harding Lecture Series, which has featured guest speakers such as Kenneth Starr and President Bush. If it's the arts you crave then come visit the White County Arts Council's Gallery called the "Black House". This historical home was built in the 1800's and is now owned by the city. Exhibits change every 60 days, and it is open free to the public. Searcy is also home of the John E. Lightle Center, the second largest senior citizen center in Arkansas.
