CARTI/SearcyCARTI, the Central Arkansas Radiation Therapy Institute has a division located in Searcy, where they treat about thirty-five patients daily. CARTI /Searcy was opened in August 1988 in an effort to accommodate the residents of White County who were making numerous trips to Little Rock for cancer treatment. CARTI/Searcy's goals are to provide the highest quality radiation therapy, and to reduce stress and provide emotional support through its various services. A Counseling and Resource Coordinator provides assistance with financial aid applications, housing, transportation, medicine and medical equipment and offers counseling for patients and family members. CARTI offers many free education and support programs including CancerAnswers (please include the registered mark immediately after CancerAnswers. I am not able to find that symbol in my email fonts) , special retreats and cancer screening projects to patients, family members and the general public. CARTI/Searcy enjoys tremendous support from the surrounding communities and from the central Arkansas medical community. The CARTI/Searcy Auxiliary was formed the same time the center opened and provides volunteers to work at the center and assists in special education and fundraising projects for the facility. CARTI/Searcy is equipped with today's best technology, designed to adapt to tomorrow's breakthroughs. The center has a Varian Ximatron simulator for treatment planning , as well as a 3D treatment planning system that works with a CT scanner for treatment planning in three dimensions. The machine that delivers the actual radiation therapy is a Varian Clinac 2100 C/D linear. All of the equipment used is designed to help the medical staff deliver the highest dose of radiation possible to the tumor while minimizing damage to healthy surrounding tissue. Each patient at CARTI/Searcy has a specific treatment plan. These are developed through the use of simulations, diagnostic-quality x-rays, and through the combined expertise of medical physicists, dosimetrists, and radiation oncologists on the staff. CARTI/Searcy also operates a Cancer Registry. This service tabulates the treatments administered, and evaluates the end results of treatment. The registry also provides quality control of patient data, records disease information on its patients, and coordinates tumor conference agendas and records.
